Types of Financial Aid
Financial aid is funding that helps reduce the total cost of attendance. It can come from federal, state, institutional, or private sources.
Scholarships
Scholarships are financial awards that do not need to be repaid. They may be based on academic achievement, financial need, leadership, or your chosen program of study. Many scholarships at CSM are renewable, helping lower your cost year after year.
Grants
Grants are need-based awards that do not require repayment. Eligibility is determined primarily through the FAFSA. Common examples include the Federal Pell Grant and other federal or state-supported programs designed to increase college access.
Work Study
Federal Work-Study allows eligible students to earn money through part-time employment, often on campus. Positions are designed to fit around your class schedule and provide valuable professional experience while helping offset educational expenses.
Student Loans
Student loans are borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest. Federal Direct Loans are typically the first option considered and may include subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Responsible borrowing and careful planning are essential parts of managing this option.
Veteran Benefits
Veterans, active-duty service members, and eligible dependents may qualify for federal education benefits, including GI Bill® programs. Our team helps coordinate military benefits with scholarships and financial aid to maximize your support and simplify the process.
Other Funding Options
Additional resources may include employer tuition assistance, outside scholarships, and flexible payment plans. These options can help reduce reliance on loans and spread costs over time.
