General Background
Dr. Nicole Chipy’s teaching and scholarly interests are centered on the intersection of geriatric care, psychosocial health, and inclusive pedagogical practices. Her instructional work at the College of Saint Mary emphasizes the occupational therapy process for older adults and those with psychosocial challenges, while also focusing on clinical reasoning and the development of professional identity. Her scholarly activities demonstrate a dedicated focus on evidence-based practices for dementia, delirium, and post-intensive care syndrome. Furthermore, she is deeply committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), frequently presenting on microaggressions, supporting immigrant students, and creating inclusive classroom environments. Her recent work also explores the evolving role of artificial intelligence in healthcare education and the importance of supporting student mental health.
Professional Affiliations & Service
Dr. Nicole Chipy maintains an extensive record of professional service and leadership within the occupational therapy community at local, state, and national levels. She has held significant leadership roles within the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), serving as the interim chair and a standing committee member for the Productive Aging Special Interest Section (PASIS), as well as the New Educator Mentorship Coordinator Lead for the Academic Education Special Interest Section. At the state level, she serves her second term as the Vice President of Skilled Nursing, Long-Term Care, and Home Health for the Nebraska Occupational Therapy Association (NOTA) and has chaired the NOTA state conference. Her community service includes a long-standing tenure on the Senior Companion Program Advisory Board for the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging, where she has served as Vice Chair. Additionally, she is deeply involved in institutional service at the College of Saint Mary, contributing to numerous committees including the IRB, Sustainability, and Faculty Development committees, and currently serving as the Secretary of the Faculty Assembly Council.
